ACCOLAY
Under the term Poterie d’Accolay we bring together the production of a community of potters established in the village of Accolay, in the Yonne department. This production center was created by four former students of Alexandre Kostanda (worked with Pablo Picasso in Vallauris).
Active from 1945 to 1989, their pottery is distinguished by great technical inventiveness and extremely abundant production. The community of potters exploited the proximity of the national 6 by investing in service stations to make them permanent exhibition sites on the Parisian tourist migration circuit. Their exhibition buildings, inspired by the constructions of the 24-hour circuit of Le Mans, became the obligatory stopover for vacationers and tourists in transit.
This form of marketing continued at the entrance to Vermenton until the factories closed in 1983. The creation of the Paris to Lyon highway, however, had diverted the flow of tourists for several years.
