“America Meridionalis”
Published in Amsterdam by Henricus Hondius, 1633.
An important map of South America, first published in 1606, with an early appearance of Sir Walter Raleigh’s ‘Lake Parime’, with Manoa (his El Dorado) on the shoreline.
The large strapwork cartouches, for the title, scale and inset prospect of Cusco, make this a very decorative item. KOEMAN: 1:311.
