JOAN MIRÓ I FERRÀ (1893 Barcelona – 1983 Palma de Mallorca) Spanish painter, sculptor, engraver and ceramist, one of the representatives of surrealism. In his work he reflected his interest in the subconscious, the “childish” and his country. In numerous interviews and writings dating back to the 1930s, Miró expressed his desire to abandon conventional methods of painting, in his own words “killing, murdering or raping them”, in favor of a form of expression that was contemporary. In his work, Miró used different painting techniques, some of them very unusual: oil, casein, eggs, enamel and tar, often including collage, sand or other objects. Throughout his life, Miró developed an extensive activity as an engraver that he learned in the workshop of Louis Marcoussis. At this time the artist basically worked with two plates of two different colors, later during his stay in New York he delved deeper into the technique, which can be seen in the use of colors. In his works from his later period, the influence of American painting and Japanese calligraphy is noticeable. Important information regarding color(s) of products: Actual colors may vary.
