BIO:
Layla D’Angelo, born in New York in 1953, is a prominent artist who has lived in Spain since 1988. In 1987, she started a weekly photographic magazine using Polaroids, in which she documented her life in an autobiographical and conceptual way. His current works invite the infinite, fusing Russian constructivism, op art and kinetic sculpture. It uses iron constructions held together by magnets, allowing the viewer to reconfigure them in an unlimited way.
His iron pieces, which suggest shapes such as diamonds, rhombuses, fish scales or puzzle pieces, never reach a definitive shape. Looking closely, you can see carefully applied dots of nail polish, adding a layer of post-feminist critique. These sculptures, which may seem like pure abstractions, resemble patchwork quilts and use materials associated with femininity, offering a critique and celebration of female work and beauty culture.
