Vintage Design
The Elchinger ceramic bowl is in good condition: fresh colors and pretty shape, discreet traces of use. It is signed on the reverse, some traces of friction are visible on the enamel. It originally had a basket-style rattan handle, this is no longer present.
18-20cm in diameter, 14cm in height.
“Céramiques Elchinger” is a family business established in Soufflenheim in Alsace in 1834. Since that time, generations have succeeded one another and offered a production that is as varied as it is avant-garde. Léon Elchinger (1871-1942) left his mark with his production of artistic stoneware as well as magnificent Art Nouveau and then Art Deco pottery, with magnificent colors and luster. Less known than Chambost, Ruelland, Jouve and Capron, Fernand Elchinger (1911-1975) will be one of the great mid-century ceramists. We are fans of his free-form productions, “handkerchief” vases and especially the play of contrast between deep blacks and bright yellows, reds or greens!
